The Manhattan Transfer
The Manhattan Transfer
Riding a wave of nostalgia in the '70s, the Manhattan Transfer resurrected jazz trends from boogie-woogie to bop to vocalese in a slick setting. Originally formed in 1969, the quartet recorded several albums of jazz standards as well as much material closer to R&B/pop. Still, they were easily the most popular jazz vocal group of their era, and the most talented of any since the heyday of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross during the early '60s.

Trist Ethan Curless:

A native of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Trist Curless is no stranger to vocal harmonies! He attended the University of North Colorado, majoring in music education. In 1995, he co-founded the pop-jazz vocal group m-pact, with which he has performed in festivals and concert halls around the world. He's also written, arranged, and produced many of the group's songs.

Trist can be found on the other side of the microphone as well, working as an audio engineer for several vocal groups and bands, including Straight No Chaser, Pentatonix, and Take 6.

When he's not performing or mixing, Trist also finds time to teach private voice lessons and to participate as a clinician and adjudicator in clinics and festivals worldwide.

Trist is having the time of his life making music with m-pact, Straight No Chaser, Take 6, Bobby McFerrin, New York Voices, Vox Audio, VoicePlay, and now The Manhattan Transfer!
